Chan Island

Chang Island is a popular tourist resort located in the Southeast of Thailand. It is washed by the waters of the Gulf of Thailand and formally belongs to the province of Trat, like the other 50 islands of the archipelago, with which it is integral.

Translated from Thai, “chang” means “elephant”. If you look at the island from above, its outlines resemble this majestic animal.

In contrast to Phuket or Samui, the tourist infrastructure here is poorly developed, the entire archipelago is declared a reserve, so development is carried out extremely carefully.

The lack of noisy parties and numerous shops is offset by natural beauties. Chang is almost entirely covered in the jungle, and the golden beaches are washed by the friendly emerald waters.

Holidays at this resort will appeal to those who want to relax from the bustle of the city and enjoy the exotic beauties of Southeast Asia.

HOW TO GET TO CHANG ISLAND?

From Trat Province
At 35 km from the town of the same name is the airport of domestic airlines. There, a flight from Bangkok lands 2-3 per day. The flight lasts about 50 minutes. There is a road from the airport that leads to the ferry. The journey will take approximately 15-20 minutes. Ferry service lasts about 40-60 minutes.

From bangkok
Buses depart from Ekamai Bus Terminal and Mo Chit Bus Terminal. Travel time is 5-6 hours. There are also mini-veins from Suvarnabhumi Airport. On the 1st floor there is a carrier desk. The rest of the way must be overcome by ferry.

From Pattaya
Chang can be reached by minibus in 3.5 – 4 hours. Tickets are sold at any street travel agency.

Only a small number of buses go to the pier, most of the cars arrive at the bus station. There you can take a taxi or tuk-tuk to get to the pier.

There are 2 ferry crossings to Koh Chang on the mainland: Ao Thammachart and Center Point.

WEATHER ON KO CHANG
Like throughout Thailand, Koh Chang has only 2 seasons, the nature of which determines a humid tropical climate. The dry season lasts from November to April. This is the best time to visit. From March to October – the wet season. The rainiest month is August. Showers can go several days in a row. All year round, the air temperature rarely drops below + 27 ° C, and the water warms up to +25 ° C.

BEACHES OF THE ISLAND

Most beaches are on the west coast. Picturesque Klong Song belongs to the Ayyapur Hotel. Hat Sai Khao (White Sand Beach) – the most popular beach of the island with a length of almost 3 km. This is the main party place. Klong Prao is shared by several canals formed by mountain waterfalls. It is always quiet and calm. Kai Bae is notable for its abundance of corals, snorkelling enthusiasts like to be here. Hat Ta Nam is rocky and solitary. It is surrounded by the most budget hotels and guesthouses.

ATTRACTIONS
Contrary to popular belief, Koh Chang is not only suitable for a beach holiday.

Waterfalls

There are many waterfalls on the island. The most popular due to their accessibility are the 3-level Klong Plu and Tan Mayom, located in the area of Klong Prao beach. Waterfalls are part of the national reserve, so for a review of natural attractions you will have to pay 200 baht.

The name of this small religious building is translated as “Holy Father Koh Chang”. They say that such a person really lived in these places and defended the islanders. And today he is offered prayers, asked for a rich catch, happiness in his personal life and other important things.

This is the most visited temple of Koh Chang. It was built by order of King Rama V over 100 years ago. Its architecture is not typical for a Buddhist temple. There is only 1 hall and a miniature museum with relics.

Memorial to the heroes of the naval battle

January 17, 1921 there was a landmark battle between the Thai and French naval forces in the Gulf of Salak Pet. During the battle, the Thai Royal Navy’s ship was sunk, which today has become one of the most popular diving sites.

Despite the fact that the Thais lost the battle (many Aborigines think differently), they managed to push the colonialists and maintain independence, unlike their neighbors.

National Marine Park

Mu Ko Chang Nature Reserve was established in 1981. It includes almost 50 islands. Its territory is 192 km2 on land and 458 km2 on water. There are amazing places for diving, kayaking, hiking and exploring the wild world. The park is home to 74 species of birds, 42 species of reptiles and 29 species of mammals.
