Langkawi Island

About 30 km from mainland Malaysia lies the Langkawi archipelago. It consists of 99 islands, but only 4 of them are inhabited: Singa, Dayyang-Bunting, Tuba and Langkawi. The latter gave its name to this natural paradise, washed by the waters of the Andaman Sea.

The island is a collection of luxurious beaches and cozy hotels for every taste, surrounded by jungle, palm groves and rice fields. Langkawi is considered one of the best resorts in Malaysia.

HOW TO GET TO LANGKAVI?

By sea. Between the island and the mainland, water communication is developed. Ferries run from 07:00 to 19:00. Travel time from Kuala Kedah is 1 hour. 40 min., Kuala Perlis, Aarau, Alor-Stara – 50 minutes, Penang – 1.5 hours.

There are several ferries from Thailand. Voyage from the island of Koh Lipe will take about 1 hour.

Through the air. The international airport is located in the northwestern part of the island, in Padang Matsirat.

WHEN TO GO?
The island lies in a zone of humid equatorial climate, therefore it is warm throughout the year. The high season lasts from November to April, it is believed that this is the best time to visit Langkawi.

Monsoons come in the summer, but they are not able to spoil the rest. Heavy rains can go several times a day, but quickly end, and sometimes not a cloud in the sky. Rarely when the weather goes bad for a few days.

Rest on the island is possible all year round. The air temperature always keeps at +30 ° С, and water + 26 ° С.

BEACHES OF LANGKAVI
Tanjung ru

The beach is located in the northern part of the island away from noisy tourist attractions. A long white strip of sand, mangroves, bizarre limestone cliffs, a turquoise sea, small islands scattered around the bay like pearls make Tanjung Ru one of the most picturesque places in Langkawi. The shallow bottom warms up well, so families with children like to be here.

Tengkorak

This beach consists of a strip of sand separated by stone steps. Tengkorak is relatively far from tourist areas, so there are few people on weekdays, but the weekend will have to make room, as local residents come here to sunbathe. The beach is equipped with cabins and a toilet, which is quite rare for Langkawi.

The only inconvenience is wild monkeys that can be left without a wallet or phone.

Chenang

This is the most popular and crowded beach. There are many hotels, bars, restaurants, cafes, car rental points, shops, travel agencies. There is an aquarium and a karting track. At night, club life rages on the coast.

The length of Chenang is slightly more than 2 km. Sand is interspersed with shells. Next door is a small island that can be reached on foot at low tide.

Tenge

The beach, almost 1 km long, is located near Chenang, from which it is separated by a cape. In Tengah, the situation is calmer, there are not many restaurants, bars and cafes. The bottom goes down sharply, which allows you to swim even at low tide. The sand is clean, large, sometimes large black volcanic inclusions are found.

Kok

The beach is located in a fashionable tourist area surrounded by expensive hotels and spa centers. The idyllic natural landscape is not spoiled by noisy cafes and bars. The beach is about 700 m long and about 20 m wide. Kok is maintained in perfect condition and will appeal to picky people.

Hitam

This beach is famous for black sand. This color is due to the presence of ilmenite and tourmaline. It is these minerals that give the fractions a characteristic black color. To get to the beach, you need to go past a colorful market. On the right side is a pier with fishing boats, on the left is a curved horseshoe-shaped coastline. Hitam is not in great demand among tourists because of algae and garbage.

Telek Yuu

One of the most visited and beautiful beaches. Its name consists of two words “telly”, which is translated from Malay means “bay” and “Yuu” – a shark. There are no live sharks, but there are statues of these predatory fish on the waterfront. During high tide, almost the entire coastline is hidden under water.

WHERE TO PLACE?

There are no budget housing in Langkawi. The island is in stable demand among tourists and locals who like to be here on holidays and weekends. Cheap hotels can be found in the city of Kuah, but it has the status of an economic center, not a tourist one. Most hotels are located in the Chenang beach area.

Average prices:

Hotel ★★★ – from 80 USD per day.

Hotel ★★★★ – from 150 USD per day.

Hotel ★★★★★ – from 220 USD per day.
